Bilateral visit between the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom and the Supreme Court of the Netherlands

In March, Justice of the UK Supreme Court took part in a bilateral exchange with Hoge Raad der Nederlanden (the Supreme Court of the Netherlands). The meeting was rescheduled from December 2023 and was the first visit by the Supreme Court of the Netherlands.
The UK delegation comprised:

- The Right Hon Lord Hodge, Deputy President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom
- The Right Hon Lord Lloyd-Jones, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom
- The Right Hon Lord Richards, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom
- The Right Hon Lady Simler, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom
The Dutch delegation comprised:
- Ms. Dineke de Groot, President of Hoge Raad der Nederlanden
- Mr. Vincent Van den Brink, Vice-President, Criminal Division
- Mr. Peter Cools, Justice, Tax Division
- Mr. Gijs Makkink, Justice, Civil Division
Roundtable discussions focused on the use of technology in court and by the legal profession, the effect of Strasbourg jurisprudence on domestic jurisprudence, and maintaining the legitimacy of the judiciary: methods of building public confidence.
The bilateral was an invaluable opportunity to discuss matters of shared interest to the two courts.
