The UK Supreme Court's Annual Report & Accounts 2023-24 (ARA)

he UK Supreme Court's Annual Report & Accounts 2023-24 (ARA) was laid before Parliament on Tuesday 22nd October 2024. The report is a statutory requirement and reviews the activities of both the Court and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, providing highlights of their work and progress against objectives, together with information about financial performance and audited accounts.

The Court has had a busy and successful year, continuing its core business of deciding permission to appeal applications (PTAs), hearings and delivering judgments. It delivered 51 UK Supreme Court judgments and 39 judgments in the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (JCPC). Many of these judgments attracted considerable public interest, such as the commonly known Rwanda case, and the Court's clarification of the law concerning the liability of doctors to relatives where medical negligence results in the death of a patient. The planned new case management system will provide a modern, excellent service when it goes live. Speaking after the Report was laid in Parliament, the Court's Chief Executive Vicky Fox, said:

"I am delighted that we have seen a 53% increase in people watching court proceedings and that we have welcomed over 58,000 visitors to the Court.

Shaping all the work of the Court is our vision to be world-leading, and we have five strategic priorities that help to deliver this: providing a world class service; serving the public; focusing on our people; engaging outwards; and diversity, inclusion and belonging. We fulfill these priorities in a number of ways that you can read about in detail in the Report."

We hope you enjoy reading the Annual Report & Accounts 2023-24, which are now available on our website
