UK Supreme Court makes final preparations before sitting in Glasgow next week

The Supreme Court of the United Kingdom is preparing to sit in Glasgow for four days of appeal hearings between 18th-21st May. During this time, the Court will be located in Glasgow’s City Chambers on George Square. This prestigious central location has been the headquarters of municipal government in Glasgow for more than a century and the Court would like to thank the Council for agreeing to allow it to use the Chambers for the week.

The Court’s President Lord Reed will be joined by Lord Stephens, Lady Rose, Lady Simler and Lord Doherty, as well as former Deputy President Lord Hodge. Lord Reed, who studied Law at Edinburgh University, has led efforts to make the Court more accessible to the public, and is delighted to be sitting in his native Scotland.

Members of the public will be able to visit the Court to watch the appeals being heard. In addition, as usual, appeals may also be watched live on the Court’s website. For those attending in person, please note that in line with the Court’s usual practice, items of clothing or materials bearing messages that undermine the dignity of the Court, or which seek to interfere with the proper administration of justice, will not be permitted in the building.
