Closed ceremony at the Supreme Court
On Monday 19 April at 9.30am, Lady Justice Rose will be sworn in as Justice of the Supreme Court in a closed ceremony in Courtroom 1.
The Supreme Court is making every effort to maintain a functioning court system in support of the administration of justice and rule of law during this challenging time. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the swearing-in ceremony will be modified to ensure that latest Government guidance on social distancing is observed.
The ceremony will take place in Courtroom 1, in the Supreme Court building. It will be a closed event with only a small number of guests in attendance. Lady Justice Rose will recite the judicial oath in the presence of the President of the Supreme Court, Lord Reed. The other Supreme Court justices and a few members of staff will also attend the ceremony.
Following the ceremony, Lady Justice Rose will be known as Lady Rose of Colmworth.
The ceremony will be live streamed on the Supreme Court website and, a short time after the event, will be available to view 'on demand' via the Court's YouTube channel
The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday 13 April however, following the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, it was decided to postpone the swearing-in.
