Request
Would you mind letting me know where I can find the respective oaths for each respective position that's held here please.
Response
Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
We confirm that the information you requested is held by the UK Supreme Court.
When Justices of the Supreme Court are sworn in, they take two oaths: the Oath of Allegiance and the Judicial Oath. They are as follows:
Oath of Allegiance:
“I, [name], do solemnly sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King Charles the Third, his heirs and successors, according to law.”
Judicial oath:
“I, [name], do solemnly sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will well and truly serve our Sovereign Lord King Charles the Third in the office of Justice of the Supreme Court, and I will do right to all manner of people after the laws and usages of this realm, without fear or favour, affection or ill will.”
An example of these oaths can be found at minute 00:06:20 of the video recording of Lady Simler’s swearing in ceremony, available on YouTube at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxPgh0_OcR8.
More information about the Judicial Oath can also be found on the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary website, at the following link: https://www.judiciary.uk/about-the-judiciary/the-judiciary-the-government-and-the-constitution/oaths/.
No other positions at the Court involve swearing an oath.
